    • Considering Resigning Your APS Membership?

If you are retiring from psychology practice, or considering ending your APS membership for another reason, here’s an overview of your options and how we can support you.

When you reach out, a member of our team will personally connect with you to listen to your experience, understand your circumstances, and see if there’s anything we can do to support you.

      Your membership makes a difference

Before you decide, it may help to understand the impact your membership has on the profession and the community.

Your membership helps support initiatives such as APS advocacy to government, submissions that influence workforce planning and policy, and professional development opportunities, as well as programs that support students and early career members. These initiatives rely on the stability of membership fees so we can plan and deliver value for the entire community. You can learn more about the APS’s impact in our 2025 Annual Report video.

      Important to note

Whether you pay annually or by monthly direct debit, the full membership fee is payable for the membership year ending 31 May, meaning that payments are not refundable or cancellable. For details, see our Membership Terms and Conditions.

We understand that personal circumstances can change. If you are experiencing serious illness, bereavement or financial hardship, please contact us (our contact info is below).

      Financial Hardship

If financial circumstances are influencing your decision, please reach out. A confidential conversation with our team may help identify available supports.

      Parental Leave

Current APS members are eligible for complimentary membership for their first year of parental leave.

If you are taking parental leave soon, let us know, we can help you maintain your connection during this time.

      Retirement or Transition to Retirement

You do not need to hold general registration to maintain your APS membership.

Members who are fully retired or transitioning to retirement are eligible for a 50% discount on the full membership fee.

Many retired members choose to stay connected for community, and opportunities to contirubte via guidance to other members, and consultation work with our policy team.
